What is Sadaqah?

Sadaqah describes a voluntary charitable act towards another being, whether through generosity, love, compassion or faith. These acts are not always physical or monetary; simple things like a good deed, a smile, guiding others towards the right path and preventing evil are all seen as acts of Sadaqah.

We rely on the kindness and generosity of our donors to ensure that these individuals are supported on both a short-term and long-term basis.

The Benefits of Sadaqah in Islam

Sadaqah can be given in any amount. Some of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) companions were incredibly generous with sadaqah, giving away large portions of their wealth and keeping only what they needed. Divide our wealth between what we need, savings, and sadaqah may be a good balance for us.

Here at Global Family Aid, we use your Sadaqah to help support and empower some of the world’s most vulnerable members. In 2023 alone we helped eased the suffering of thousand of people across 24 countries.

Sadaqah averts calamity and increases sustenance and blessings in one’s life. Allah says in the Qur’an, “Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over? And it is Allah who withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be returned” (Qur’an, 2: 245).

How about leaving great Goodness and lasting traces in different geographies with your support?

When to Give Sadaqah

Sadaqah can be offered at any time and for any reason. Sadaqah can be given to commemorate or bring blessings to special occasions such as weddings, births, or other significant anniversaries. Muslims give Sadaqah as a sign of gratitude to Allah on these occasions (SWT). Sadaqah, on the other hand, can be given in times of sadness, illness, and bereavement, as well as on behalf of others, living or dead. What matters when giving Sadaqah is sincerity and seeking Allah’s pleasure, regardless of your motivation (SWT). Remember that giving Sadaqah does not deplete your assets. So give generously and fearlessly!v

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, ‘When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (a continuous charity), or knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him’.
