What is happening
Since early September, fighting has spread along Yemen’s Red Sea coast and around Taiz. Families have fled with nothing. Roads are cut, and a key port for food and aid has been cut off.
Yemen imports about 90% of its food. In parts of Taiz, the price of flour rose 10% in just two weeks, and wheat stocks are expected to last only about two months. Bread, the staple most families depend on, is slipping out of reach.
Children pay the heaviest price. 2.2 million children under five are acutely malnourished, and children who have lost a parent are left with no one to provide for them.
